Try NetWars!

What a week!  I have one more day of facilitating SEC301.  I hope that I learned a lot.  It's hard to tell right now.  SANS training is intense.

I somehow managed to get to level 3 in the Core NetWars in my first NetWars Tournament.  That was so fun.

Whether you are experienced or not, give it a shot.  Some people have the chance to take it, but skip out on it because they're intimidated.  The scoreboard has usernames.  Unless you point out your name, noone will know that it's you.  It's fun.  The worst that can happen?  You don't score.  Everyone starts somewhere.  Noone starts out as an expert.  I'm definitely not an expert, yet still answered enough questions to get to level 3.  If I can do it, many others can as well.  If you read the NetWars description, it tells you what you need to study.

For me at least, I learn the best by doing something hands-on.  I downloaded VMs, learned a bit about tools, learned some about the Linux terminal.  Everyone should learn Linux.  It is so powerful.

I still have a lot to learn, but doing NetWars showed me where my strengths and weaknesses are.  I can now use that knowledge to build upon those skills.  My reading list is so long. :)

  1. Do you have your reading list saved any where? Like GoodReads? I'd be interested in seeing how it matches up with my own. Thanks for all the awesome blog posts. :)

  2. At the bottom of the home page of this blog, I have "My Library So Far". Good idea, though. I'll look into saving a list on GoodReads.
